Medical Education and Community Health
The Department of Family and Community Medicine trains medical students in all three phases of the medical school curriculum. As part of PPS 1 in Phase 1 we teach Epidemiology and Biostatistics. During Phases 1 and 2 we offer a variety of electives including Inter-professional Care of the Medically Underserved, Procedures in Primary Care, Introduction to Primary Care Sports Medicine, and Coaching and Health Education Skills. We also offer electives in which students have the opportunity to shadow Family practice physicians in the community. During Phase 3, our elective options include Multidisciplinary Treatment of Chronic Pain, Primary Care Sports Medicine, Women's Health, Geriatrics, Clinical Prevention, and Primary Care Research. The department also offers preceptorship experiences in Rural Health, Family Practice in an Urban Setting, Urgent Care, Community Family Practice, and International Health.
