GME Strategic Planning
In September 2002, the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, embarked on a strategic planning process to address issues relevant to resident subspecialty and fellow education (GME) and to develop a plan concentrated on the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Outcome Project. Because of the Outcomes Project paradigm shift from process to outcomes related accreditation, Robert M. Heaney, M.D. chair of the GMEC and associate dean for graduate medical education, recognized an opportunity for change and improvement and has been engaged in a strategic planning process adapted from Goodstein, Nolan, & Pfeiffer (1993). Dr. Heaney asked Ann Rohrer, a research associate with the Center for Organizational Learning and Renewal, to facilitate the strategic planning process. This report concerns the overall results from the initial steps in the strategic planning process.
