Policy and Procedure Manual

1. Policy
   The School of Medicine shall have a Committee on Admissions to recommend to the Dean acceptable candidates for admission to the School.
2. Purpose
   To establish minimal requirements for the admission of candidates to the student body, to review admission applications and initiate special recruitment programs of the School of Medicine.
3. Procedure
   1. This administrative committee is primarily constituted of faculty. Total membership is determined by the Dean. It is the responsibility of the faculty members to interview applicants, evaluate their credentials and render a final decision. Faculty members shall serve a term of six years and are appointed by the Dean on recommendation of the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, the Committee on Faculty Affairs and the faculty member's department chairperson. Each shall be a voting member. In the absence of an Associate Dean of Admissions, the Dean shall appoint a Chair for a prescribed period. Medical students may also be appointed to the committee by the Dean upon recommendation of the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs and each shall be a voting member. The term of appointment for student members shall be three years and is contingent upon continued excellent academic performance and recommendation of the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs. The Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs shall manage all administrative functions for the committee and may choose to interview applicants and vote on applications.
   2. Meetings shall be held weekly from September to May and upon call by the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs or at least four faculty members of the committee. Secretarial support, technological support and sufficient funds to meet the needs of the committee to acquire useful information on each applicant shall be provided by the Office of the Dean.
   3. The Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, or delegate, shall present an admissions report to the general faculty twice each year. Regular reports shall be made to the Dean of the School of Medicine and to the Executive Committee of the Faculty throughout the academic year.
